Research Essay

“I want a double Big Mac dad!” this statement is where it all started. Last week, while trying to kill a few hours before a movie, my girlfriend and I decided to get something to eat. Although eating fast food may only be a bi-weekly event for us, we decided to take the easy way out and get something to snack on at McDonalds. While in the line up we happened to look upon, as I would say, “the fattest 4 year old I have ever seen.” ordering a double Big Mac meal. I was in shock, half of the reason was because I could not believe a child could eat this much, and the other half because I thought it should be considered a form of child abuse to let your obviously obese child eat this unhealthy.  This made me think of the movie “Supersize Me”, where the main character eats nothing but McDonalds for an extended period of time, and how the “richer” countries binge on food for fun. This would make me assume that less developed countries must have a much lower rate of obesity because they cannot afford such luxuries. So, I decided to make my research paper on “Obesity in developing and developed countries”. In 2005, the World had an estimated 1.6 billion adults overweight; among these at least four million people are said to be obese according to the World Health Organization. With an estimated 500 million people underweight, the world’s “diet” is far from perfected. It is important to know why people are becoming so obese in recent years and what we can do to help this epidemic. This is why I think this topic will be a good research essay.
